2 New Ways to Heal Bone Spurs

Many of the patients we see at Your Next Step Foot and Ankle Care Center suffer from bone spurs, a painful protrusion often linked to issues like plantar fasciitis. Unfortunately, the prevalence of spurs doesn’t make them any easier to resolve.

There is a silver lining, however: Two innovative methods, Tenex and Amniotic Fluid injections, are allowing those afflicted by bone spurs to bounce back and get going again. Our team wants you to know about them, so the blog below will break down why these potent tools work well when other methods might fall short.

Bad Bones

Often caused by repetitive stress or strain, bone spurs on the heel can irritate the plantar fascia ligament, leading to stabbing aches and consistent pain. Traditional treatments like rest, stretching, and orthotics aim to reduce inflammation and support the arch.

Sometimes, however, the spur itself needs addressing. This is where TENEX steps in.

TENEX Treatment

  • TENEX technology uses ultrasound-guided needles to remove loose bone fragments and inflamed tissue around the heel spur.
  • It’s minimally invasive, meaning a quicker recovery than surgery, and studies show significant pain relief and improved function when compared to conservative methods.

Beyond the Heel

Bone spurs aren’t limited to the heel. They can form on other foot and ankle bones, like the ankle joint (bone spurs are a common culprit in ankle arthritis) or the toes (hallux rigidus, or big toe stiffness, often involves a bone spur). These spurs can pinch surrounding tissues, causing pain, stiffness, and limited movement.

Fortunately, another modern treatment method can make all the difference.

AF Injections Alleviate Aches

  • For bone spurs like those above, often found in areas where surgery might be challenging, amniotic fluid injections offer a promising alternative.
  • Rich in healing factors and anti-inflammatory proteins, AF injections can reduce pain, improve mobility, and promote tissue repair.

Bone spurs take many forms, but these two treatments can handle all of them. If you’re afflicted, come see for yourself!
