Thank Your Feet this Thanksgiving

Your feet work hard to support you in all that you do. So, this Thanksgiving, be sure to give thanks for your hard-working feet. In today’s post, Dr. Eric Ricefield, Dr. Mark Yagodich, Dr. Aliza V. Eisen, and Cassandra Stache, DPM of greater Philadelphia’s Your Next Step Foot and Ankle Care Center share 5 ways to thank your feet properly.

Here are 5 Ways to Thank Your Feet:

  1. Indulge in a salon or home pedicure. This activity can range from simple grooming and cleanup to a full treatment with skin exfoliation and strengthening polish. Remember to sanitize your tools, be gentle, and don’t do anything that causes you pain, which could lead to infection or injury.
  2. Maintain a healthy lifestyle. It’s essential that you take care of your entire body, and that includes your feet. Eat a healthy diet, considering any conditions you may have, such as diabetes or gout, so your feet don’t suffer from lack of nutrition or overindulgence. Regular exercise is also great for your feet. Be sure to include stretching exercises and strengthening your feet, toes, and ankles to relieve tension and promote circulation.
  3. Wear supportive, comfortable shoes that fit properly. If you often wear high heels, rest your feet and find supportive casual shoes. Also, invest in a bag to hold your comfortable shoes so you can switch out of your uncomfortable business shoes and into walking shoes anytime.
  4. Enjoy a foot massage. Place one foot on the opposite knee so the bottom of your foot faces you. Rub your foot, using oil or lotion if you wish, but be careful to avoid slipping after! If you can’t reach your feet, use a lacrosse ball or a small golf ball on the ground to massage the soles of your feet. Get a partner and take turns massaging each other’s feet, using your thumbs in a circular motion. You can also get a professional foot massage. While this is a luxury, they know the perfect spots to give you pain relief and the ultimate relaxation!
  5. Schedule your annual podiatry exam. The team at Greater Philadelphia’s Your Next Step Foot and Ankle Care Center can assess your feet and give them the proper treatment. The earlier problems are identified, the more likely you can stop them from worsening! Click hereto locate the office nearest you to book your appointment.
